Mr Abhilash Jain

Abhilash Jain was educated at Epsom College, UK, before training in medicine at the world famous Guy's and St.Thomas' Medical School, London. He graduated in 1995 (MB BS) and subsequently undertook his surgical training in London to become a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) in 1998. After this he began training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery in London teaching hospitals.


He then entered academic Plastic Surgery training and first undertook an MSc at University College London, for which he was awarded a Distinction and the Professor's Prize for best student. During this time he was also one of the first Plastic Surgeons ever to be awarded a prestigious ARC Clinical Research Fellowship to study for a three year PhD (the highest degree that can be earned). He undertook his PhD at Imperial College London and discovered the mechanism by which tendons are destroyed in rheumatoid arthritis. For this work he won many prestigious prizes and published numerous papers in world famous journals, including the Lancet. His work allowed him to make a significant improvement to the management of this condition.


Abhilash continued to train in Plastic, Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery at a number of premier plastic surgery units both in London and Sydney, Australia. After passing the Plastic Surgery Specialist Fellowship [FRCS (Plast)] in 2008, Abhilash was entered into the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in 2009. Abhilash then undertook a number of prestigious fellowships including a congenital hand surgery fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital, a cosmetic surgery fellowship at the Wellington Hospital and he won a place to be the first Plastic Surgeon to undertake a Royal College of Surgeon approved Post-CCT microsurgery fellowship in lower limb reconstruction at Charing Cross Hospital.


Abhilash has a strong belief that in order to provide the best care for patients it is essential to be at the forefront of research and medical technology. He has both extensive clinical and academic training in Plastic Surgery and this was recognised when he was the first Plastic Surgeon to win a prestigious HEFCE Clinical Senior Lecturer-NHS award. This is a competition held amongst academic doctors from all specialities around the country; only a few have won this accolade.


Abhilash has published extensively on aspects of plastic and hand surgery and is involved in the teaching and training of medical students and surgeons. Abhilash runs an extensive research program and has presented work both nationally and internationally. He is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer and Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Imperial College London and undertakes all aspects of hand, lower limb reconstruction, general plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery.
